EdUERJ – Publisher of the Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ) is launching the book Local politics in the state of Rio de Janeiro: partisan dispute and political behavior in the 2020 municipal elections, organized by Prof. Argelina Figueiredo, coordinator of the Electoral Studies Laboratory (Doxa), and by Felipe Borba (Unirio School of Political Science).

In 18 chapters, the work analyzes party disputes and electoral behavior during the 2020 municipal elections in the State of Rio de Janeiro. The authors investigate topics such as the characteristics of Rio’s party system, from 1980 to 2020, the profile of candidates and those elected to city councils, the political behavior of the electorate and the impact of Covid-19 on the choices of voters, among others. The result is a detailed overview of local politics in the state, allowing the understanding of how the municipal elections were influenced by events such as the pandemic, the rise of the right-wing after the 2018 presidential elections, and the arrest of political leaders, among them, five former governors.

The book can be purchased at EdUERJ’s official website!
