From April 26 to July 19, 2022, IESP-UERJ presents the international lecture cycle Making Sense of the Post-Covid World: Continuities and Changes, a partnership between the Institute, the Hamburger Institut für Sozialforschung (HIS), the Lateinamerika-Institut (Freie Universität Berlin) and the Maria Sibylla Merian Center Conviviality-Inequality in Latin America (Mecila). Coordinated by professors Mariana Cavalcanti (CASA Group) and José Maurício Domingues (NETSAL), together with Sergio Costa (FU Berlin/Mecila) and Wolfgang Knöbl (HIS-Hamburg), the series of eight seminars presented by researchers from different origins and fields of Social Sciences, discusses the persistent effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on societies: its impact on social inequality, international politics, feelings of local, national and global solidarity, among other issues

On Tuesdays, starting at 1 pm (BRT), the lectures will be presented in English and will take place through Zoom Meetings digital platform, in addition to being broadcast live, through Mecila’s YouTube channel. Those interested in participating will be able to register for each of the seminars through a specific link for each date. Check out the summary of each lecture here and, below, the programme:

The international partnership between the four research institutions is also part of the IESP-UERJ postgraduate course schedule for the first half of 2022, with internal discussion and preparatory sessions for students enrolled in the discipline. The lecture series Making Sense of the Post-Covid World: Continuities and Changes is sponsored by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, through the Anneliese Maier-Preisträger 2018 award, received by Prof. José Maurício Domingues.
